About Mighty Mortimer

Passed on April 29, 2013

Mighty Mortimer Sam’s Son, a black and white English Springer Spaniel born 4/12/2000 to Psycho Samantha and Lisa’s-Gunner-Ria with his AKC certified pedigree, passed suddenly 4/29/2013 to the rainbow bridge. Affectionately known as “Mort” he found his forever family in Chisago City when he was at the bait shop looking for someone to adopt him. We took him home on an overnight trial to see how he would do with Molly and Maggie, and on 6/20/2000 he officially became part of the family and the rest is history!

In usual springer fashion, he ran and jumped and played and chased balls when he was young, with a basketball or tennis ball always close to him. This led to his dental problems, as he wore his front teeth right down and needed to have dental fillings placed when he was 5 years old. (He never did like blood draws after his bad experience at a consult about his teeth.)

Mort was a wonderful guard dog and quickly got to know when the family or friends were coming and going. He loved to get in the truck and go to the cabin. He always enjoyed sniffing for “kitties.” (Any wild animal or bird, large or small, was a “kitty” to Mort.) He had Lyme disease, and some elevated liver functions for a few years, but was a trooper, and was feeling better, and even walking two miles per day before he passed.

Mort loved his grandkids and was a great babysitter and source of entertainment to the kids as well. He was a quick learner and especailly enjoyed when Lori would teach him a short routine and then perform “circus tricks” for us all. His ears would always perk up if we told him his “kids” were coming over.

A good friend to Murphy, his surviving “brother dog,” he was the spokesperson for both of them and made sure Murphy had food and water, or a treat when Mort thought they needed one, like popcorn, one of their favorites! Mort’s Great Grandpa Jack called them the ‘barker brothers” and said the only problem with Mort was that he was always on the wrong side of the door!

More recently, Mort especially liked to go in the car to see Great Grandpa Don, and would sit at his feet and visit him, to help Great Grandpa feel better.

He will be missed by many who loved him. Special thanks to Jenny, who walked with Mort daily, including the day he died, and Kim who loved and cared for him up to the time he was gone.

Thank you also to all of our friends and family who have sent or given expressions of sympathy. It means a lot that you all understand our special bond and the loss Mike, Joan and Murphy are feeling at this time. Thanks also to Pets Remembered Cremation (www.petsrememberedcremation.com) for the care and attention they gave to Mort and his family preparing his cremated remains to come back home forever and join Molly, Mitzi and Maggie’s footprints on our hearts.
