October 2006 to March 8, 2021
Our “furst” baby, Sadie, passed away on Monday morning. We are heartbroken. She was a sassy little lady who left us with so many funny, sweet memories.
Did I write an obituary for my cat? You bet your fluffy black tail I did.
Back in 2007, we decided to get a pet to celebrate our first married Valentine’s Day. We went to the former Minnesota Valley Humane Society in Burnsville and walked through the cat room. There were only a few cats there at the time so we decided to take a look at the other pets up for adoption as well.
As we were leaving the cat room, this snarling, hissing ball of fluffy black fur threw itself at one of the cage doors. She had been curled up, sleeping in the back of the cage. The room was kind of dark, she was black and we couldn’t see her in there. We had walked right by thinking the cage was empty. She decided she wasn’t gonna miss her shot.
I took one look at this petite, scrappy thing with her little fang hanging out and thought “I like your style, cat.” When they let her out of the cage to meet us, she climbed me like a tree and sat on top of my head. We had been chosen.
On the way home she fought and clawed her way through the top of the shelter-provided cardboard pet carrier and stuck only her head out through the small hole she had managed to tear, supervising our drive home, like a creepy cat periscope.
The years to come brought many laughs and much household destruction. She never met a cord she didn’t bite. She once chewed off and subsequently puked up an entire bra strap. She ran cat marathons around the house, which always ended by jumping on top of the door and riding the inward swinging motion to her ultimate goal: the ceiling fan, which was never once a successful endeavor for her. She grew from a scrappy, feral ball of fluff, into a beautiful member of our little family who channeled every bit of kitten rage she had toward her lifelong nemesis, Tom Siewert.
There are so, so many amusing, endearing little things she did and I’d love to tell you every single one but this post is too long already. Everyone feels their pet is the sweetest, cutest, most special and none of us are wrong about that. Thanks for 14 years of love, Sadie Lady ❤️
